Assalamu Alaikum Wa-Rahmatullahhi Wa-Barakatuhu.

Ibrahim Cardiac Hospital & Research Institute, Dhaka is going to conduct an on-line training course on “Methods in Clinical and Public Health Research”. We are running this course under the supervision of Dr. Md. Nurul Amin, Associate Prof. Research & Development, Ibrahim Cardiac Hospital & Research Institute, Dhaka. He is a Public Health Expert and a former Teacher of Community Medicine at Rajshahi Medical College. He was also a Trainer of Training on “Research Methods” for Postgraduate Medical Students, conducted by Directorate General of Health Services, Dhaka Bangladesh. He has long 30 years of experience on “Clinical and Public Health Research” and during the period he has provided consultancy services to > 600 postgraduate medical students to solve their research related problems/issues pertaining to thesis/dissertation. He had been the coordinator of MIS, National Nutrition Project (NNP) for long 10 years, where his main responsibility was to analyze the data generated from the field level nutrition-related activities and prepare “Monitoring & Evaluation Report” from them.


The whole training course is subdivided into 4 Clusters (Protocol/Proposal Writing, Academic/Scientific writing, Biostatistics & Application of Biostatistics in SPSS and Biostatistics only) based upon the need of the potential trainees in different disciplines of health. This advertisement is for Online Training on “Writing Research Protocol” only, which is again subdivided into 5 Parts, each part covered by 3 classes of 1 hour duration each. The training classes of the 1st Batch trainee will be held at 9 PM each night from 16 September to 30 September. The training will be provided in modular form with modules: 1) Introduction to Research Methods, 2) Research problem & Researchable problem, generating research question & hypothesis, 3) Research objective and relationship among Research title, Research question, Research hypothesis & objective, variables and operational definition of variables with practice exercises, 4) Study Design 5) Data analysis plan and deciding appropriate statistics to test the hypothesis.


This Online course is designed to meet the need of the postgraduate students of clinical, paraclinical, preventive and medico-social discipline. However, any researchers aspiring to undertake a research work in any field of biological sciences will be equally benefited.


The course "Writing Research Protocol" is of 15 hours duration. After each class/lecture trainees will be provided with home-work so that they can receive hands-on training (practice/exercise) as to how to write a protocol. The exercises have designed in such a way that every trainee will be equipped enough to write their study protocol confidently. The course will highlight the need of the funding agency, such as, clinical or social implications of the proposed research and addressing ethical issues, which the protocol submitter/applicant generally encounter. The protocols written by the participants after completion training will be reviewed by the Ibrahim Cardiac at a subsidized rate.

Learning objectives:

At the end of the workshop the students/participants will be able to:

1. write thesis/dissertation protocol of acceptable standard

2. state clearly the rationale for the study, research question/hypothesis

3. describe the objectives in measurable and attainable terms

4. find scientific and relevant literatures needed to write the protocol and how to get access to those literatures.

5. choose the right design to address the hypothesis and objectives

6. define the study population applying the enrollment/eligibility criteria.

7. determine the appropriate sample size for the study contemplated

8. choose the variables that will reflect the research question/hypothesis and objectives.

9. operationalize their variables as and when needed

10.develop the research instrument (questionnaire / check-list / data-sheet/ data collection format)


Participants: Postgraduate students of Clinical, Public Health and Medico-social Disciplines. Teachers of Clinical & Preventive Discipline may be benefited with the course.
